FLOOKBURGH, Cumbria. Ever heard of it? Me neither.

The former  fishing village is hardly on the tip of your tongue when you think about the wonders of the Lake District. But this picturesque village is home to Haven's Lakeland Leisure Park.

It's a bit like being a hamster inside a huge wheel.

AquaJets pull you through the water. There are also Aqua Gliders - individual, inflatable mini jet skis that skim the surface of the water.

Our holiday home was a Prestige two-bedroom affair with a big dining and seating area, a telly/DVD player and separate bathroom/shower room. Plus it had space around it for a spot of outdoor badminton.

There's loads to do for both kids and adults, including horse riding, pitch and putt, a nine-hole golf course, tennis and fishing. And don't forget all the other attractions that the Lake District has to offer.

This wonderful part of England has spectacular scenery, with the sprawling lakes of Windermere, Coniston and Ullswater within an hour's drive.

We went to The World of Beatrix Potter at Bowness-on-Windermere, dedicated to the life of the children's author and the characters she created.

Another place worth a visit is Holker Hall, a 16th Century mansion that also has a food hall selling speciality cheeses.

By the end of the trip we were not so much cheesed off as glad we'd had a cracker of a holiday.
