THERE'S no reason to sink thousands into a high season cruise, as EMILY BAMBER discovers when she goes in search of the best bargain European itineraries

GREEK ISLANDS FROM £66 A NIGHT
Every  Friday in August two ships belonging to Louis Cruise Line (0800 018 3883/ www.louiscruises.com) leave Athens and sail around the Greek islands for the weekend. 

Ports include Mykonos, Patmos, Santorini and Crete where you can visit ancient Knossos Palace or delve into the rural interior for vineyards and tavernas. The ship returns to Athens on Monday morning.

Stay longer to see the Acropolis Museum or extend your holiday on the nearby beaches.
