As Prince William and his bride-to-be Kate Middleton start to make arrangements for their big day next year, NICOLA ISEARD looks at some of the great destinations that can offer the young newlyweds the perfect romantic break

NECKER ISLAND
British Virgin Islands
If the newlyweds are after ultimate privacy they should head to this 74-acre Caribbean island in the British Virgin Islands owned by Sir Richard Branson.

Straight out of a Bounty advert, it operates like a resort and can accommodate up to 26 guests in stunning cliffside houses. The couple could also hire the island exclusively for themselves.

They could while away days sipping cocktails in the infinity pool with its swim-up bar, strolling the island's pristine beaches or being rubbed and scrubbed in the luxury spa.

The sporty couple have plenty to keep them active, too, from tennis and sailing to water skiing and scuba diving and after they have worked up a healthy appetite, the Michelin-trained chefs can provide the icing on the cake.

Book it: Virgin Holidays + Hip Hotels (0844 573 2460/vhiphotels.co.uk) offers seven nights from £9,435pp (two sharing), all-inclusive, including return flights from Gatwick and transfers. For exclusive island hire, the package costs from £137,500pp (two sharing). Spa treatments from £53.

SHAKTI 360 LETI
Himalayas, India
If the couple are after a spot of trekking they should head to this beautiful and remote retreat which is surrounded by snow-covered peaks (at 8,000ft) in Uttaranchal in the Indian Himalayas.

It has four luxurious ensuite cabins, decked out in woollen rugs and handcrafted wooden furniture, fronted on two sides by glass; perfect for lapping up those spectacular mountain views.

After a day spent trekking through ancient rhododendron forests with a guide or visiting Hindu temples, the couple can unwind with a meditation or yoga session before warming up in front of the fire in the main lodge and enjoying a candlelit dinner-for-two.

Book it: Black Tomato (020 7426 9888/blacktomato.co.uk) offers seven nights from £2,799pp (two sharing), full board, including return flights from Heathrow and transfers. Guides, excursions and meditation/yoga sessions to be arranged on request.

EAGLE'S NEST
Val d'Isère, France
Some say it was during their ski holiday in Klosters, Switzerland, in 2004 that William and Kate's romance flourished.

This impossibly romantic and award-winning chalet in Val d'Isère, part of France's vast Espace Killy ski area, would make a perfect honeymoon spot.

Minutes from the piste, it sleeps 12 (though the couple could take over the entire chalet for themselves) and is beautifully decorated with exposed wooden beams, stone fireplaces and plush furnishings.

After a day on the slopes, the chalet has all the couple could ever need: a personal chef, home cinema system, indoor swimming pool, sauna, steam room (perfect TLC for achy post-ski muscles) and a brand new hot tub on the balcony with mountain views.
Bubbly anyone?

Book it: The Oxford Ski Company (01865 398130/ oxfordski.com) offers seven nights from £2,595pp (two sharing), full board, including champagne and canapés each night and concierge service.

The same package with exclusive chalet hire costs from £17,640.

Flights and transfers an extra £250pp.

SELOUS SAFARI
Tanzania
William may have popped the question in Kenya but it's neighbouring Tanzania that is the hottest safari destination right now. This über-luxurious camp located on the banks of Lake Nzerakera in the 21,235 sq mile Selous, Africa's largest game reserve, is perfect for a royal safari in style. It has 13 tented cabañas decked out with elegant rugs, oil lamps and antique wooden chests.

As well as game drives in search of elephants, lions and wild dogs, William and Kate could go on a dawn game walk to learn about tracking, laze by the pool or feast on gourmet food in the alfresco dining area overlooking the lake.

The water attracts all manner of local wildlife, from vervet monkeys to hippo herds and crocodiles. The happy couple could even embark on a sunset boat safari to get a closer look.

Book it: Rainbow Tours (020 7226 1004/rainbowtours.co.uk) offers a 10-night trip from £4,995pp (two sharing), full board, including five nights at Selous Safari Camp, five nights at Fundu Lagoon on Pemba Island, return flights from Heathrow and transfers.

FLYING SAFARI
Argentina
With William's love of flying and Kate's taste for adventure, cazenove+loyd's new flying safari across the Iberá wetlands of northern Argentina would be right up the newlyweds' street.

Flying between destinations in a four-seat, light airplane, from which the views of the lakes and wildlife below are breathtaking, highlights of the trip include a stay at Rincón del Socorro.

This former cattle ranch offers some of the most stunning birdwatching and nature walks in Argentina.

The couple could go horse-riding around Paraná Lake and fly directly over Iguazu Falls, which is one of the great natural wonders of the world.

Book it: cazenove+loyd (020 7384 2332/cazloyd.com) offers a 10-night trip from £3,020pp (two sharing), full board, including one night at Estancia San Alonso in Mercedes, five nights at Estancia Rincón del Socorro in the wetlands, two nights at Puerto Bemberg near the Iguazu Falls, two nights B&B at the Legado Mítico in Buenos Aires, return flights from Heathrow, domestic/charter flights and transfers.
